Words From The Bard

By Barbara Desmond

Thank you Gabrielle for talking with me. I must say that it's quite an honor to talk to the Battling Bard of Potedia. You have such wisdom and your stories have touched so many people.

Gabrielle: I am so pleased about that. I hope that people can gain inspiration from them.

Oh I'm sure they do and for all time since I'm sure many generations to come will circulate around the Xena Scrolls.

Gabrielle: That would be wonderful. I want people to know Xena as I have the real Xena the good Xena.

You have quite the special relationship with her don't you one might even say that you're soulmates. How would you describe your relationship with Xena?

Gabrielle: Well I'd say that soulmates is an accurate word for it. We have this special bond that transcends even death. We were destined to be together. I think I sensed that connection the first day I met her at least in this life. I suppose that was part of the reason that I followed her because I knew we were supposed to walk through life together.

So what are you gonna write about next? I know that your main focus is Xena of course but what about fiction?

Gabrielle: Well after that whole enchanted scroll thing I was leary but I have a scroll that I'm working on about a wooden boy that I started but never got around to finishing.

What is it like to be put to death and to later be risen from the dead?

Gabrielle: Well I don't recommend it. I couldn't let Xena die and if we were meant to die I suppose I prefer we do it together.

That was a major turning point for you.

Gabrielle: Absolutely. In that moment I realized my path and I wasn't going to stray from it.

What about the Way of Love?

Gabrielle: I thought it was my path and even now I believe in it and respect it but I realize that people have to fight for those who can't or won't. It seemed ideal but when I saw Xena so helpful I just knew in my heart that I was on the wrong path.

That must be so rare to see Xena so helpless since she is so obviously one of the strongest women in the world?

Gabrielle: Yes it is even though you tend to forget since she's so strong that she's a mortal just like the rest of us.

How strange was it to wake up only to find out that twenty-five years had passed?

Gabrielle: We woke up and everything was changed. Joxer had a grown son and little Eve was a bloodthirsty killer named Livia. Such a short reunion with a dear friend but it was wonderful to see that he got married and had kids. He got that happy ending he always wanted and deserved and I know now that he's at peace.

So have you really forgiven Eve for killing Joxer when she was Livia?

Gabrielle: Yes I have because I know that Ares is really the one resposible for twisting her all up inside. In that respect it's a case of like mother like daughter. Sometimes you have to walk through the darkness to get to the light. She knows her path and destiny now and she's following it.
